How to Flourish Government Schools?

How the present condition of government school can be uplifted has been a serious matter of present Nepal. Who the guilty are and why the quality has not been increased though a huge amount of money has been spent. Neither the government of Nepal has paid attention to the education nor does the bureaucracy of Nepal have positive attitude to the government school. Moreover, teacher’s organizations have not been sincere to raise their voice for the sake of teaching profession. Insincerity of school administrators who had spent more than two decades or more, feel proud sending their kids to the private schools and blame to the community not sending their kids to the government schools are irrational.  The university teachers who produce teachers for school levels are good at blaming to the poor performance of the SLC results but forget their own output of Bachelors and Master level results as well as unable to deliver to their students that honesty, discipline, sincerity, feeling of harmony, devotion, love to the professionalism, possessing positivity even to the poor students’ performance, enthusiasm in teaching professionalism, caring attitude to students and classroom management, desire to make a difference in the lives of young people are the precious qualities that everyone who wants to flourish his/her career from teaching profession, should be adorned with.  In addition to it, the most important factor of teaching learning components are teachers; they seem to be irresponsible too. Another cause of it is the low payment for teacher and no extra charming. A candidate who begins his professional journey from section officer and gets retired from the secretary or chief secretary of the government of Nepal, has a bungalow to live, run a car at least and gets a chance to travel to abroad but on the other hand, a candidate who begins his journey from a secondary level (third grade) teacher, may get retired being the first class secondary level teacher having nothing material but the love of kids. Moreover, a qualified school teacher who has quality and qualification for teaching university students, his/her years of teaching profession is not counted if he/she joins to university. Due to the motivation towards English language, as well as irresponsibility of students’ parents, government schools are being spacious. Lack of teaching learning environment is another one. In the same ways, the political parties are using students as a tool of revolt.

Without rays of education, no nation can march forward. How the performance of government school can be improved. Here are some clues if applied, indeed, can change the present situation. Firstly, the government and its component should be positive towards the government schools. Although rights to education of every individual should be as his/her choice, every related stake holder of nation should send their kids to the government school for education. If it is done a more responsible and sincere guardian every school gets and works as a drop of mobile that keeps every part of engine without rust. It increases the faith to all. In the same way, teachers’ organization should work for the sake of whole education system and should be able to counsel to the government and develop the curriculum and text to compete to the contemporary manpower of the world and let the education of Nepal known to the world as well. More than this, every teachers’ organization should be free from political affiliation though everyone has right to have faith in one belief. Only professionalism should be on top of every teacher’s leader mind.

Moreover, the biasness between teachers and bureaucracy should be ended and the teachers who are working and if they want to change their profession, should get a chance to fight in competition for high ranking officer too and if a bureaucrat wants to be a teacher, let him /her counting his/her years of profession too. In addition to it, the concept of kiths and keens should be avoided and let the right person to the right place either for training or for other academic exercises. Furthermore, the key person of every school is the headmaster. Let the headmaster appoint through open competition and make him/her more responsible to the outlet of school. If the chief of any organization gets vehicle facility, let such facility to the school’s head as well as to the head of campuses too. Another way to improve the present situation of school will be by letting the university teachers be more sincere and responsibility to their professionalism. It means they have to be able to transfer their students that work is worship and teaching is for giving rather than taking. Without motivation, no one wish to join at any institutions. Therefore, let each every school equip with modern technology, lab, ground to play, and hall for extracurricular activities. More than this, there must be child friendly environment in every class of each school. To motivate teachers there must be reward for his/her outstanding performance and punishment for those who neglect to their duties and responsibilities. Let the medium of teaching English as well as Nepali as students’ demand. Every political party of nation should avoid students to use in their programs and schools must be zone of peace.
